The main problem here in the US is the lack of quality education for homeopaths and therefore the lack of knowledge to perform quality double blind studies. The NIH office on ALternative Medicine run by Dr. Doosey is running numerous studies and I believe they are doing some double blind studies. I know of one homeopathic compound that I have found to work in extreme asthmatics and that is Naja Trip. Its not a double blind study but I'll explain the results from observation of 250 asthmatic children here in Phoenix. All were severe asthmatics and usually went to the Drs office and ER at least once a month about half had progressed to once a week visits. The parents were desperate and could not see any relief being offered by conventional medicine. The homeopathic substance was added as a supplement. Regular pharmaceutical perscriptions were continued. The only time the homeopathic substance was used was when the child started to feel like a asthma attack was starting. It was not given at any other tim. In all cases the asthma attacks became less severe and less freaquent within a week. By the end of 4 weeks at least 1/2 of the children rarely experienced asthma attacks. By the end of 6 months all the children rarely experienced astham attacks. By rarely experienced, asthma attacks that required the use of medicine to bring under control. By the end of one year the average Drs office or ER visit was reduced to what a normal non-asthmatic child would experience. In most cases, about half, the child would be free of asthma attacks until exposed to severe enviromental pollution. But they were able to control the severity of the asthma attack by taking the Naja Trip. My niece had severe asthma as described above. She was place on Naja Trip and the results were dramatic. They live in Anchorage and about 3 years ago a volcano errupted and was putting out sulferic acid by the mega tons. Paint on the cars in Anchorage was being etched away for several days. Everyone in Anchorage was having some level of respiratory problems, asthmatics and non-asthmatics. She did get sick, but using Naja Trip and some other homeopathic compounds she did not end up in the hospital. Major problem in conducting a sudy. There is a big differance amoung homeopaths as to dose. Many in the US will only give doses in the 6x to 30x range. There are a few that are willing to go into the 200x, 1m, LM and CM ranges. They are the rare exception. Then you couple this with a homeopathic practice f dispensing ranging from 6x only once a month(B.S. ripe off Drs do this and charge $300 per treatment) To a complex and potentially dangerous use of 200x, 1m, LM and CM on a daily basis by under educated practitioners. There is also a differance between chronic and acute. They are treated differanctly. Acute, by definition, is short and immediate. Basicaly a first aid approach. Chronic is where many American trained homeopaths really blow it. In order to do a proper homeopathic workup you better be prepared for a long detailed interview process. The AMA states that the patient history is the most important part of any patient exam. If this is so important why is the normal Drs visit 5 to 10 minutes. Well anyway, The key within the Homeopathic history is something I have observed with over 22 years in nursing. The first 20 minutes (this is a magic number and rarely fails) the patient will discuse every thing but the true underlying cause of his problem. After 20 minutes they start talking about their real problems. The great classical homeopaths came to the conclusion that 80 to 90 percent of all patient care dealt with psychological problems. This is important to remember 80 to 90 percent. Some would say all. When I have interviewed MD's & DO's (family practice and some specialist usually Internal Med) they agree with the following. About 90% of the patients are there in their office to have their hands held. They want someone to care about them and give them something to feel better. A vast majority of these patients have psycho-social issues and they escape by going to the Drs. office with a variety of vague symptoms. Again another look at the 80 to 90% numbers. Nurse practitioners and Physician Assistance claim they can care for 80 to 90% of what a family physician can care for. This is a true statement supported by research. What does this mean. The classical homeopaths had developed superb methodologies for taking patient histories that any MD could learn from. Secondly, the length of time in todays medicine does not allow for the therapeutic interaction between patient and Dr. We have relegated medicine to a production line. (Go see your Dr during the flu season) If the vast majority of patients are seeing the Dr concerning psuedo symptoms that mask a underlying psycho-social problem then the current MD practice will do nothing to help them. The classical homeopathic approach will then be more effective since part of the healing process is the interaction between care giver and patient. OK I got wordy. My brain is near melt down with this rewrite of my nursing theory course. God I hate complex wordy BS of theories. As for my problems don't be sorry. It forced me to examine alternatives and delve into finding out what is real and not real. Some time we need to discuse the religion of Modern AMA Medicine that is a fun subject. It realy gets on peoples nerves.
